Canelo Alvarez put on another clinic last night (Sat., Sept. 14, 2024) LIVE on DAZN pay-per-view (PPV) from inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, defeating previously undefeated Edgar Berlanga with a dominant unanimous decision.

The Mexican superstar was leading a jam-packed boxing card that went head-to-head with UFC 306 at the Sphere (results HERE). Luckily, Canelo wasn’t the only fighter who showed up Saturday night to steal attention away from UFC. His supporting class included Erislandy Lara, who handed Danny Garcia his first-career stoppage in co-main event action, and Caleb Plant, who delivered a huge comeback TKO on the undercard.

Despite all of the early action, the main event was Canelo’s chance to shine once again and deliver another memorable performance for his Mexican fans. He did just that as he commanded the action in the early rounds and started to beat Berlanga up. Alvarez was faster and smoother with his combinations and it led to a beautiful left hand in the third that toppled Berlanga to the canvas.

After that exchange, Alvarez practically toyed with Berlanga. He was in the zone every step of the way and Berlanga grew frustrated. In fact, Berlanga decided to implement a few dirty tactics in the later half of the fight, including a head butt and cheap shot off a break. It didn’t matter, though, as Canelo would not be denied another landslide victory and successful title defense.

After the fight, Alvarez spoke to Jim Gray and explained how he felt throughout his main event contest given the pre-fight trash talk with Berlanga. Alvarez did not minced words.

“I got angry, I’m Mexican,” he said.

Angry or not, Alvarez still looks to be on top of his game. Check out the video highlights from Saturday’s title fight below:
